[there is a simple explanation if anyone knows anything about 
networking and I think a potentially simple solution - store and 
forward. Make the scanners on and hardwired to the local console, but 
let the console store and forward status like Etag does presumably at 
least as far as the commuter knows. The myki probably relies too much 
on real-time connectivity to work and that's just not realistic. 
Multiple points of failure comes to mind. If they removed a few, they 
could get on with it.]
