[LINK] What happened to the .info.au domain?

I wrote to Cameron McCormack to thank him for his excellent site:

  http://belowtheline.cc

which enables the easy creation of a personalised how-to-vote card for
all senate candidates, by placing whole groups of candidates in order
as desired and then optionally moving individual candidates up or down
in the total order.

I suggested it would better be in a .au domain, and he replied that he
didn't think it would meet the criteria for a .au domain:

   http://www.auda.org.au/domains/au-domains/

  asn.au com.au net.au id.au org.au

It is not possible to register a new domain under ".info.au" - which
seems strange. I couldn't easily see why this policy was adopted.

So here is a public spirited programmer, doing great work of real
value to many people - as David Boxall wrote: something the Australian
Electoral Commission should probably do - and he can't find an
Australian domain to register it under.
