Watching the three independents on the ABC on Monday I was very  
impressed.  These are people who have thought through things for  
themselves.  They are not relying on a party to do their thinking for  
them.  I guess we'll have to see how it goes and where it goes.  For  
me, Oakshott was the most impressive.  He asked, yesterday wasn't it,  
why we can't form a united parliament.  Well why can't we?  The answer  
seems to be that Australia's political system has become so  
adversarial and tribal that no-one will work with anyone from the  
other side.  They'll trust their own side even when their own side  
switches policies.

Sad.  I would like to see more politicians of the calibre of these guys.
