Existing assets stand to play a big part in NBN co's plans, mostly in
relation to long haul.

Doing so is the quickest and cheapest way to reach particular goals.

Here in Germany the biggest competitor to Deutsche Telekom is Arcor (now
a Vodafone brand) which was built on the fibre assets of Deutsche Bahn.
