Well, I guess there are a couple of ways of looking at it.

Here's the (pre-Kaiser) team: http://www.nbnco.com.au/ourTeam.aspx

Until now, there's been no (official) Chief Spin Officer.

Ergo, they tried to do without one, but have recently been disabused
of their naivete.

Well, I'm trying for them ...

The effective 2IC focusses on 'industry engagement' (to the exclusion
of 'public policy engagement', judging by my emails with her). She
has a 'pure management' background - BEc (dry?), MBA, McKinseys.

And I wonder whether the CTO was a recommendee of the
anyone-but-Telstra industry association  (:-)}

Gary McLaren
Chief Technology Officer, is responsible for scoping the technology
requirements of the National Broadband Network. Mr McLaren has 25
years experience in the telecommunications industry. He joins NBN Co
from his role as lead consultant working on Australia's National
Broadband Network project for Communications Alliance, the
self-regulatory body responsible for developing guidelines and policy
for the Australian telecommunications industry. Since 2004, Mr
McLaren has been providing consulting services to various companies
in the telecommunications and IT sectors with an emphasis on
commercialisation of new technologies. Customers have included Optus,
Telecom Fiji and Telecom NZ-owned AAPT. Mr McLaren's early career
included engineering roles at Telstra and Siemens. He has degrees in
Engineering and Law from the University of Melbourne.
