A friend writes,

 http://www.nearmap.com

I was just sent a link to this site which is like google maps but allows
you to compare satellite images over time. It shows you the dates of the
images and the images are quite hi res and recent.

You can select the dates you want to view at the top from a drop down or
using a slider/timeline.

Archivists, geographers etc and just anyone might like to keep snapshots
showing the development of geographic area of interest.

Looks to be a creative commons style license and appears to have metadata
like bus stops and other layers added. There are API’s and the like so
people can use it, contribute and mash up, etc.

The site has some top finds lists at: http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-
32.028017,115.944496&z=21&t=k&nmd=20090319

Here is a fun example: http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-
32.028017,115.944496&z=21&t=k&nmd=20090319

Quite a powerful tool!  Nathan
