Getting sidetracked but why does every major websites reinvent the "article
comments" wheel so badly?

Picking on Fairfax:

- Why newest comments first? Surely the "conversation" with your readers
  will flow better if people read what has already been said in the order it
  was written?

- The timestamps are not linear so perhaps there is some kind of
  threading but there are no visual cues to assist the reader.
