It's not necessarily sad.  When a new product meets or exceeds deep 
unarticulated needs, then it's  revolutionary, a category-killer or 
whole new category maker.  Like the Sony Walkman.  Or the Apple II. 

What's tragic is the cruel judgement meted out to failures ("You idiot!  
Why didn't you listen to your customers?") versus the adulation reserved 
for successes ("You visionary!").
