I'm with you 100% on this one, Richard. 

A sensible educational technology middle ground would make the technology recede into the background, and become as reliable and innocent a tool as the spanner in the industrial arts workshop, or the slide rule in the maths department (or whatever they use these days).

And I sincerely believe that the iPad (and what it represents) is a genuinely useful step in the right direction. It's just a shame that it has an Apple logo on it.
