Catching up on last weekends hardcopy newspapers, perhaps
this could explain the level of hype....
> Last month, before the iPad had launched, The Australian sold $1 million worth of advertising to four big players - the Commonwealth Bank, IBM, Optus and the airline Emirates - in just 10 days. The advertising was sold, in part, on the proposition that the four companies would have exclusive advertising rights on the iPad for three months after launch.
....
> The Australian is claiming the nation's bragging rights as the first newspaper to be on the iPad with its app, an application indicated by an icon on the touch screen that allows you to download and browse the newspaper.
>
> Editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell says the newspaper's app is "a terrific, immersive experience".
>
> "We are extremely proud to be the first newspaper in the country to have a dedicated iPad app. We have been delighted with the interest shown during the pre-registration period and have no doubt that the app will be a great success."
....
> Details are slim but Melbourne-based cheap gadget man Ruslan Kogan has vowed to bring a Chinese-built, Android-based tablet to market later this year. The Kogan device will have a 7-inch touch screen, an HDMI connector for hooking up to a television and a low-ball price said to be about $200.

> TABLE. SLATE. PAD?
<http://www.kogan.com.au/blog/2010/feb/4/table-slate-pad/>

There were a lot of Tablets on display at CeBIT last week.
Though I don't think using a pen to type on a tablet will
catch on. Another I tried, did a fairly good job of
character recognition of my handwritten scrawl. The sales
guy suggested that these wireless "input" tablets, combined
with mouse pen, could be used in a classroom situation to
save people walking upto the "blackboard"
