DOM is a pretty mess, and useful only for programmers.

You're reading what you want to read, not what it says. It doesn't
says xmlhttprequests "originated at Firefox", it says what it says,
that the feature was "originally introduced in firefox version 3.5".
Do you see release notes of Microsoft products saying where a given
technology originated?. Each products's release notes speaks from a
product-centric point of view, it's not an encyclopedia.
