My concern was not with the merits of the Telstra network versus that
proposed by NBN Co, nor how realistic the Government claims for the
"National Broadband Network" are, but that Telstra were misrepresenting
their Bigpond product by suggesting it was using the NBN.
The phrase "national broadband network" is associated with the project
the government has been promoting and now run by NBN Co. Telstra could
not expect the average consumer to understand the difference between "a
national broadband network" and "The National Broadband Network" in
spoken advertisement.
This is much the same as the difficulty in explaining the difference
between "an internet" (a network of networks) and "The Internet" (one
publicly accessible network of networks).
I could offer you a cheap connection to an internet (this could be a
little box with a few networking chips in it), but you would be
disappointed if this did not provide access to the Internet.
