Which is where I would have thought that the announcement last week of
the FSF's hardware endorsement program might gain greater appeal:
http://www.fsf.org/news/endorsement-criteria
Their focus appears to be hardware DRM measures which prevent end users
from doing what they want with the equipment they buy, as is the case
with many proprietary device drivers.
It doesn't take much, though, to extend this to larger actors
(corporations and states) and the adoption that is free of the types of
interference that would be of concern to sovereign states.
