On Friday the Senate Standing Committee on Environment, Communications and the Arts' inquiry into "The adequacy of protections for the privacy of Australians online" was hearing evidence. Late in the afternoon they got onto the topic of internet service providers keeping the metadata from all your internet-based communications for later use by law enforcement agencies -- what's called "data retention" in the game.
The written Hansard should be available on Monday, but meanwhile I've posted the audio of the relevant discussions, a total of just under 50 minutes.

If you prefer not to listen to the whole thing, I'll have a 10- or 15-minute "edited highlights" package on my "Patch MOnday" podcast, which should be online around lunchtime tomorrow Sydney time.
The blog post also contains links to some of the news stories so far.
