Malcolm is undoubtedly the coalition member with the best grip on the
issues in the portfolio. I don't see any problem with an informed
opposition providing scrutiny on a multi-billion dollar project.
It may also be that the NBN will end up as a wedge between Turnbull
and Abbott. If the NBN remains voter friendly, and Malcolm has
attacked any mismanagement or waste he can credibly stand for a more
responsible government in 3 years, whereas if Abbott is any more
derisive of the network his head might explode.
I think the telling piece will be if Malcolm attacks the very
fundamentals of the idea, or if he attacks the implementation.
As to why Tony hates the NBN? Maybe he has been reading The
Australian. Its almost as if the printed paper has the customisation
tweaks you can set on Google news to only display stories you are
interested in, and Tony has set it to "bag the NBN and the Greens".
