Greetings Linkers,

With all the politics around the NBN, I've become a bit confused. In an
attempt to regain some perspective, I've been looking into events
leading up to our current position.

The earliest I found is at
<http://www.misaustralia.com/viewer.aspx?ATL://20020301000010336009&title=Your+say>
(which is encumbered by one of those tricky "don't copy me" scripts).

There's a fair bit of information at
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Broadband_Network> and
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_in_Australia#First_Broadband>.
Some on OPEL at <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPEL_Networks>. Ain't
Wikipedia a marvel?

It's all a bit disjoint. The government had a fairly comprehensive
policy by June 2006. Clearly, much had gone before. As remember it,
Telstra had a role in torpedoing an initiative between the OPEL thing
and the current policy.

Comments, pointers and recollections would be much appreciated.
