Another problem in Australia. It is illegal for anyone other than a registered electrician to cable a house, if the cable enters a wall cavity. In a previous house I had a long cable follow a wall into another room as a cheap alternative. It was only possible because the two rooms shared a common wall and nobody could trip over the cable. It's not as if many of us can't cable a house (I am a radio amateur and soldered together my first computer), but it's against the law.
But I have met people at the computer club who have allegedly broken the law. ;)
