Which reminded me of an article from the Library Association's latest inCite that commented on the lack of working indexes in ebooks.  I haven't read any non-fiction ebooks, so I can't comment.

Does anyone have any experiences in using or creating ebook indexes - or is there an assumption that a search facility will meet that particular need?
