Bumped into Michela Ledwidge at the film and TV industry christmas party
in Sydney on Saturday. Michela was webmaster at the National Library of
Australia in the mid 1990s and claims to have had the first website in
NSW, so would be worth talking to about web history:
http://www.linkedin.com/in/michela
Also have a look in the USENET news archives, as that is where
announcements of the era were posted:
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&as_q=web+use+Australia&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=10&scoring=&lr=&as_sitesearch=&as_qdr=&as_drrb=b&as_mind=1&as_minm=1&as_miny=1981&as_maxd=1&as_maxm=1&as_maxy=1994&as_ugroup=&as_usubject=&as_uauthors=&safe=off
You can plot the rise and fall of popularity of policies such as the
Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile (GOSIP) via USENET
items. A search of USENET for "GOSIP Australia OSI" shows:
1988: 2
1998: 2
1990: 5
1991: 10
1992: 20
1993: 22
1994: 30
1995: 17
1996: 5
1997: 7
1998: 2
1999: 1
ps: It was a good film and TV Christmas party:
