What are you talking about? US gas prices have gone up to $3/gal on 
average nationally. When I was there 6 months ago, it was $2.65 or 
so, depending on local taxes.

In 1982, it was probably <$1/gal. When I was in high school, I paid 
$.25/gal about 12 years earlier.
