Before putting a server in the basement of the Commonwealth Ombudsman's 
Office some years ago, I checked the Australian Capital Territory flood 
inundation map: <http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/2910309>.

This showed the location was near the 100 year flood line, so instead I 
had the computer installed on an upper floor. This caused some 
inconvenience as it took up office space, but no one seriously 
questioned the decision.

This sort of thing is included routinely in data centre design. For 
example, the Queensland Government's Data Centre Guidelines (August 
2010), mention flood risk:
