Tom,

I'm not so sure of your claim that archivists are people very careful in 
their use of words. From the link you provided:

"If your archives or organisation has been recently affected by a 
disaster...."

And getting back to your use of affected, I guess I was right when I 
said that I didn't think you meant "affected" adj. 1 pretended, 
artificial. 2 full of affectation.

The trouble with using words that have multiple, contradictory meanings 
is that the ambiguity can lead to misunderstandings - which in some IT 
activities can be disastrous.

IMHO, affected and effected are dangerous words, better avoided.
