And this is also so time-consuming for producers of documentaries, who have to get permission for each and every image, sound grab or piece of video they use -- since a documentary is not news reporting. And why feature films have a huge slab in the credits showing every little bit of music heard.

It's simply the way things have to be done currently, and it's a a PITA.
