How absolutely fantastic!
The loaves and fishes parable comes to mind.
Data locked in a vault benefit no-one. Shared with the world, could
release all sorts of opportunities that could benefit many.
Building on last years government "what can you do with this data set"
initiative, someone is releasing the datasets to the public via the NLA
and the crowd sourced results will no doubt add valuable insight,
knowledge and understanding of our (and others) historical social,
economic and moral growth path.
The statistical datasets alone could keep me in a happy place for
years...
Too often the original reason for the data collection has either expired
or been expunged from the consciousness of the citizenry. This is a most
excellent way to rekindle patriotic fervour in the history of Oz [and
our forefathers].
If this was initiated by a Politician, I want to vote for her/him, if it
was initiated by an archivist somewhere deep in the bowels of the NLA, I
want to nominate them for an OBE.
Bravo NLA. A Most excellent adventure ...
Let us hope that other datasets are added to the fold.
TomK
