I concur with this approach, if members of the list think a secondary
archive is important I don't see any issue with activating one, either
mail-archive.com or somewhere else if someone has a better suggestion.

Given that posting to the list already results in public archiving I don't
see any issues with a secondary archive being activated. I have full
confidence in the ANU to maintain the existing archive but an "off-site
backup" is never a bad thing. In terms of whether it should be at
mail-archive.com, I can't think of a better place. It appears to be run in a
non-profit way, even if there is no formal incorporated organisation behind
it, and their FAQ seems to indicate they make a small surplus which is then
disbursed as donations to other charities. I've often used it the past, it
features prominently in search results for technical questions as they
archive many open source and general software user lists.
