I haven't been able to find anything else on it, which doesn't reflect
well on Winston. From a political or personal reputation point of view
it was in his interests for the matter to disappear quietly - and it
did. But in my view the fact that he never seems to have addressed the
criticism says that at least in one case he put his reputation ahead
of his scientific ethics. Science is an unforgiving game: you only
have to be caught with your hand on the scales once to make your
entire career look suspect.
