As it is an opt in not an opt out - the question is how many have
chosen to join.

The 4000 is the hook up not the rollout. The rollout is a major
infrastructure project. Using the roads analogy, how many driveways have
been built off the highway or even how many towns does it pass through?

That reflects the services you already have access to. The NBN is about
delivering the similar kind of services to areas which don't currently have
good access. Some of these are not yet on the electricity grid either.

The question I am mulling over, is whether to bother with a landline
whenever they cut off the copper. I would be more enamoured with the idea
if the electricity and communication lines followed the same path - ie an
aerial connection to the premises.

A 100 years ago, When they rolled out Electricity - the Sydney City Council
used the Telegraph Poles!

Back in the late 1990s, I actively advocateed against the TV Cable and
wrote to the Council saying they should lobby for wireless. They wrote back
and said that I should be happy they lobbied for underground cables and
that Telstra/Optus had acquiesced.
