marketing droids love it because it enables easy exploitation of
herd mentality...and the herd members willingly and enthusiastically
volunteer their private information in exchange for very little or
nothing.
YOU are supposed to care because it enables you to overtly display your
herd membership(s). kind of like an online version of paying a premium
to wear advertising logos and slogans.
after all, you have no identity except by proxy through what you
consume.
