I don't either. I think I still pay substantially less for utilities
here than I did in the US. I know my electricity bills are about 1/3
of what they were, mostly because of the climate differences between
moderate Melbourne and hot hot hot desert Arizona where aircon was a
necessity. There may be a cost per unit difference where we pay a bit
more, but the actual need is far less if one is reasonable about their uses.
I cringe when I see news reports where people are spending nearly
$1000/quarter for electricity. I shake my head an wonder what their
behaviours are that result in those sorts of costs. Probably houses
lit up like Christmas trees generating unnecessary heat that is
requiring their central aircon units to work even harder.
