correct, they aren't.

however, you can tell them not to call you.

if they persist, tell them to FOAD every time they call. meeting
rudeness with rudeness seems to be the only thing that works.
unfortunately, it's the only thing that works.

i have a script.  it goes like this:

said loudly: "Put this number on your do-not-call list. Do not call this
number again. We don't want junk phone calls here. Got that? [short
pause, not long enough to let them get a word in].  Good.  Now Fuck Off
And Die. [hangup]"

the FOAD ending is, unfortunately, necessary. experience has shown that
they *will* call back if i don't say it. anything less emphatic just
doesn't work (like all spammers, charity phone-spammers insist that
their spam isn't spam, and they just don't want to believe that i don't
want to get phone calls from them)

regular phone spammers get that immediately. charities get it the second
and subsequent time they call.
