Headlines I can kind of understand, but links seems a bit silly.
A bit like the recent Optus live view appeal ruling, it smacks of a
judge trying to interpret the law in such a way as to maintain the
status quo.
And then I thought about the Pirate Bay's move to using magnet links
instead of hosting torrent files.
As I understand it, these encode a hash of distinguishing information
about a torrent file (like an MD5 checksum i guess) that allows a
torrent client to 'find' the file out amongst trackers.
So links are containing more and more complex information. Perhaps at
some stage they should become subject to copyright, much as a database
collection has been ruled to be!
