Plenty of people making the case - not so many providers listening.

The NBNCo GPON plans are settling to a ratio of around 4:1 or better - the 100/40 plan
is close to the 2:1 ratio that GPON technology natively provides.
Theres no real reason why they couldn't introduce a symmetric 50/50 plan for example,
provided enough people take up the 25/5 or worse ratio plans to leave capacity in the
upstream direction.

In any case, people's actual usage doesn't need to be directly in proportion to the
line speeds in each direction.
