Overhead cable has to be resistant to sunlight, as well as unpalatable
to cockatoos. It is also vulnerable to brushfires.
On a visit to Samoa, I saw ordinary blue "Ethernet" cable stung from
power poles in the capital city. This was deteriorating after a few
years in the tropical sun: http://www.tomw.net.au/2005/emuseums/
I also have seen cockatoos systematically destroying electrical
equipment on power poles and cables melted in brushfires.
Transact procured special UV protected (and presumably unpalatable) gray
cable for their overhead system in Canberra. But there was not much they
could do about the brushfire problem.
