Yes, an "eCensus" option was available for the 2006 and 2011 Australian 
population census. I tried them out:

Apart from the obvious risk to personal privacy, the ABS could be seen 
as a simple form collector, when there is much more to running a census.

ps: I was the user database administrator for the population census, 
when I worked at ABS, but that was back when we had punch cards. ;-)
