Couldn't of described the current MTM any better...

Yes, your old cable modem will be replaced with an "nbn connection box" 
and you
will get what you are given. But nobody knows what yet due to lack of 
documentation.

The talk of DOCSIS3.1 is fairly misleading as well. It will be used to 
primarily pack
more users on the segments as apposed to increasing speed (it provides 1Gbps
but you will still only be able to get 100Mbps).
