The conclusion from the coroner was :
"It must be accepted on the evidence of Dr Luckin that David most probably
succumbed to dehydration and died within a relatively short time after his
last phone call at 12.27pm. While the chances of locating David alive on
the afternoon of the 11th December were remote, even with all the available
information at the disposal of Police, the location of his body sooner
would have provided the Iredale family at least with the opportunity for a
dignified farewell."
12:27pm was 30 minutes after the first call was made, and 20 minutes after
the Police were first engaged.
I'm not saying that the 000 operators handled things well, but the reason
for 7 calls being made was prominently the fact that calls dropped out due
to poor coverage. The delay in finding him was largely because he had very
little idea where he was. Anyones that's hiked that area, or that has been
involved in search and rescue operations will tell you that the odds of
finding him in any realistic time is all but zero.
