Right now, Australia’s academic reputation is world-enviable, which results in education being our third main foreign-currency earner.

But also right now, anecdotal reporting in terms of graduate student ability seems to indicate we are largely just trading on this reputation.

Apparently we don’t know, because lately our universities are not researching into any such anecdotal lessening of graduate-student outcomes.

So, it seems we could very soon have real problems. And thus far, nothing seems to be happening regarding this? In addition to potential problems for Australia’s economy, what about problems for we Linkers? Numbers of us work in academia, and probably all of us hold Australian qualifications. And speaking personally, for example, as one who has three degrees, and three graduate-diplomas, I would hate to see these debased, simply for short-term gain by a few greedy, short-sighted university administrators.

I strongly feel we have to act quickly, and do something, whatever it is, to protect and enhance our fine Australian academic reputations.

Cheers,
Stephen
