AFAIk Google have only said they will pull search.  If they blocked GMail 
in particular they would never be trusted again.

There would be short-term pain but TBH this could be an opportunity. 
Google has mindshare.  When people think of search they think of Google. 
In effect this is a monopoly player threatening to allow others in to the 
market.  I wish a few more monopolies would make threats like that.  Yes 
Google search is fantastic but a lot has been learnt about search since 
Google's original algorithm was a research project.  Google mindshare has 
been keeping others out of the market.  That might not be true in 
Australia in the near future.
