I don't knowingly belong to any social platform and have never done so (is Link a social platform? :-) for two main reasons:

(1)    I don't trust any of them unless there's a reasonable argument they're not "selling" me and those I converse with.  These companies are set up to make a profit, and that's not going to happen by providing free or unrealistically low-cost services.  Just read the so-called privacy statements.  Of course they all begin along the lines "XYZ Company values your privacy..." ...yeah, sure, read on.

(2)    Although I've never used it, Signal is one exception I'd consider.  A number of contributors to Link over recent times have made the point that Signal as a Company has decided enough people care enough about their privacy to pay for it.  Unlike other platforms, I believe it uses end-to-end encryption rather than having separate keys for each party generated at the service-provider.  And the US Democratic Party strongly advised their members to use only Signal though Zoom was all over the media at the time.

That's all from 1950 for now.

P.S.    I see ChatGPT intends providing a API, at least to corporations.  That should put the Cat among the AI pigeons.
