This reminded me of a quotation so I asked Perplexity to track it down -
The phrase "privacy is dead. Get used to it" has been attributed to several
prominent technology figures, but the most widely recognized origin is
Scott McNealy, co-founder and then-CEO of Sun Microsystems. In 1999,
McNealy famously stated, "You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it,"
during a press event, which has since been paraphrased and widely cited as
"privacy is dead. Get used to it"[3][1].
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has also been associated with the
sentiment that privacy is no longer a social norm, and some sources claim
he said "privacy is dead, get used to it" around 2010[2]. However, the
original and most direct attribution of the phrase in this form is to
McNealy in 1999.
There are also references to the phrase being used by other technology
leaders, including claims that a Google CEO said it[5], but the most
verifiable and widely cited instance remains Scott McNealy's statement in
1999[3][1].
