Announcing the Hank Nelson Prize for Writing on Papua New Guinea



The Hank Nelson Memorial Endowment was established by family and friends of the late Pacific historian Hank Nelson to honour his memory and his commitment to Papua New Guinea.



The endowment now seeks to fund a $1,000 AUD prize, to be awarded every two years, for the best Doctor of Philosophy thesis submitted by any student, internationally, on any aspect of Papua New Guinea’s history or society. This shall be known as the Hank Nelson Memorial Award.



To be eligible for the Award, the submission must:



1. Have been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy between 31 March 2016 and 31 March 2018;

2. Be focussed on Papua New Guinea; and

3. Be at least 60,000 words in length.



The first deadline for prize submissions is 31 March 2018.
