[ANU Pacific.Institute] A new master class on 24 October--and you can vote for the topic!

Hi all,


On 24 October (Wednesday next week), the distinguished scholar Susanna Trnka<http://www.arts.auckland.ac.nz/people/strn001> (University of Auckland) will give the morning seminar in the Anthropology series. She conducted dissertation research on topics of gender, the body, violence, citizenship and suffering in coup-era Fiji, and has since conducted research on health in Europe (especially the Czech Republic) and New Zealand, with a focus on the politics of childhood asthma. On the afternoon of the 24th, from 2:00-4:00pm in seminar room 3 of the JG Crawford Building, she will be giving a master class. But she is an expert in many areas, so she and I have agreed to poll potential interested attendees on what the topic ought to be! She proposes the following:


- Gender in the Field (i.e. doing fieldwork as a gendered subject)

- Publishing: the Ins and Outs of Getting Books and Articles and other Modes of Media Online or into Print

- Asking "Big Questions" in "Small Places": How to Move from Ethnographic-Specificity to Addressing Broader-Scale Issues

To cast your vote, please let me know your preference by this Thursday at 5:00 pm (Canberra time). I will then announce which topic will be offered at the following week's master class. In the event of a tie, I will let Susanna know the tied choices and ask her to cast a deciding vote!
