The National Library’s new exhibition Cook in the Pacific explores Captain James Cook’s three remarkable Pacific voyages through the eyes of both the British voyagers and the First Nations peoples they met.
Our panel will discuss the natural history artists who travelled on Cook’s voyages, the impact their work had in Europe at the time, and the continued value of those early illustrations for science today.

Our panel comprises:

Bronwen Douglas – 2010 NLA Harold White Fellow, historian of Pacific colonial encounters at ANU as Honorary Professor, ARC Laureate Project.

Julia Landford -   Founding Director of Canberra NatureArt Lab (botanical art school), wildlife artist and former public servant for DFAT and AusAid.
