My name is Aaron Minehan and I am the acting Program Manager of the Education Team here at the National Library of Australia. I’m reaching out to you today to see if there may one or two people who would be interested in an opportunity to contribute to our online teacher resource, Digital Classroom, by way of a short essay (c.1000 words).

Part of our work in the Education Team is to connect students and teachers to the Library’s vast collections in ways that are relevant to them and that align to the Australian Curriculum for schools. This resource is free to use and access for everyone but it is aimed at teachers to give them the foundations to confidently bring the Library’s collections into their classrooms.

The third and final module in this depth study will be Polynesian expansion across the Pacific (c.700-1756).

As above, we are interested to see if one or two people from the ANU who would be willing to write a short essay (c.1000 words) exploring at least one of the themes the depth study Polynesian expansion across the Pacific (c.700-1756):

·         Theories about the origin and spread of Polynesian settlers throughout the Pacific (ideally at least one essay would have a main focus on this theme)

·         The way of life in ONE Polynesian society during this time , including social, cultural, economic and political features, such as the role of the ariki in Maori and in Rapa Nui society (Easter Island)

·         Cultural achievements of ONE Polynesian society during this time, such as the Ta moko and hangi in Maori society OR the moai constructed on Easter Island

·         The way Polynesian societies used environmental resources (sustainably and unsustainably), including the extinction of the moa in New Zealand, the use of religious/supernatural threats to conserve resources, and the exploitation of Easter Island’s palm trees

The Library would be happy to offer modest compensation of $1000 for each article. We would be looking for an ideal submission date of COB 17th November 2021 which would give us enough time to launch the new Digital Classroom module by the end of November.
