The 3rd Vikings Novice Program is set to get underway at the end of
September. It's a great pathway for novice adults to get into cycling
and we will equip you with all the skills, information and confidence
you need to tackle a bike race.
Who's the program for?
Anyone who wants to race their bike! The Program is aimed at cyclists
who want to improve their riding skills, learn to bunch ride, learn
criterium racing skills and tactics, to meet other cyclists, to get
prepared for the 2009-9 CCC Summer Criterium series, and to
participate in local bike races and events. Participants from
previous years have included a range of people from a variety of
experiences and backgrounds, including men, women, AWD and master's
aged riders. Some had very little riding experience, some had come
from a triathlon background or other sports, some were hardened
commuters who were yet to ride in a bunch, others simply wanted to
improve their criterium racing skills and to learn some exciting race tactics.
Afterwards, we don't leave you to fend for yourselves, instead we'll
organise some teams to participate in the CCC Summer Criterium
Series. Essentially, we can take you as far as you want to go -
whether you choose to be a casual rider or whether your aim is to
make it to the National Road Series!
In particular, please encourage any female friends or family that you
think would be interested in getting into road cycling to join up.
The cycling world definitely needs more women involved, and last year
around half of the participants were women which was fantastic to
see, and we'd like to try and have as many involved in this year's
program. So if you want to bring along a female buddy or know of
anyone else who could get involved then please let them know of the program!
All the details, including registration forms, are up on the Novice
page. Please send in your registration form to reserve your place, as
places are limited.
