Hi all,

Annual General Meeting Wednesday 17th March (tommorow)

The ANU Sailing Club 2004 AGM will be held at 1930 Wednesday 17th March. >From 4pm the clubhouse will be open giving you the opportunity to go for a sail in a supervised environment. This will be followed by a free BBQ and the AGM.

The major task for the AGM is the election of the 2004 committee. With older committee members graduating and moving on the club really needs new blood on the committee.

If you are interested in nominating for a committee position contact me (Garrick Larkin Club Secretary on u3299815 at anu.edu.au , 0404 292 691).

Weekend to Tuross Head 27th/28 March

Sailing/Kayaking/Beach Weekend To Tuross Head 27th - 28th

The plan is to drive down to Tuross Heads on the south coast (2.5hr drive) on Friday night and car camp at a caravan park which is just metres from a surf beach and 10 minutes walk to the shops. With a surf beach and sheltered lakes it is an ideal location for sailing, kayaking, surfing or just relaxing on the beach. On the Saturday night there will be the traditional BBQ and beach party.

This trip is ideal for those who want to get to know other members of the club in a relaxed setting. There will be plenty of water activities (sailing, kayaking, windsurfing) to keep you amused although we we usually find that most people are happy just to hang out at the beach.

Put your name down by emailing me.

Camp fees: Approx $10 per person per night
Petrol: Approx $20
Pretrip Meeting: At clubhouse 1900 Wednesday 24th March

Sailing Sessions

The following supervised sailing sessions will be held. This is a chance to practice sailing while supervised or ask about how to rig more advanced boats.

Wednesday 17th 1600-1900 (followed by AGM)

Monday 22nd 1700-2000 (followed by drinks at CYC)
Wednesday 24th 1600-1900 (followed by pretrip meeting for Tuross Trip)

Beginners Learn to Race (all standards of sailor welcome to compete).

This is a beginners series and is designed for those who have just completed a beginners course and want to learn how to race. As opposed to normal racing, coaching powerboats will be on hand to give advice and assist you. This is an excellent opportunity to learn to race however there is no compulsion to race and you could just go sailing with the added safety of rescue boats. There is no cost since it is paid by the ANUSC.

Tuesday night racing starts at 1800 so get down around 1715 or 1730 to rig. Racing finishes at approx 1930 so you will be derigged by around 2000.

Racing continues until the end of March so start turning up.

How to get involved in the ANUSC

Six Simple Steps to getting actively involved in the ANUSC (and meet a lot of people and have a lot of fun)!

1) Turn up to social events (eg Coast Trip to Tuross 27-28th March) or after course drinks. Trips like this are an excellent way to meet other club members. You can swap details to organise to sail together or turn up to future events.

2) Turn up to training courses to help out or just meet lots of people. Even if you aren't an experienced sailor you can still help out and you will meet a lot of people.

3) Turn up to regattas. In sailing the most important requirement for a crew is weight so even if you have never been on a boat before there are opportunities to get involved with racing.

4) Organise your own events. Organise your own events by inviting friends and other club members to go sailing with you.

5) Organise club events. If you want to organise anything from twilight sailing, attending an interstate regatta or social Go Karting the committee will support you. You decide what the club needs and help make it happen.

6) Join the committee. Committee members are in the loop with what is coming up, get a clubhouse key and priority for racing boats.
