Hi all,
Just a couple of quick things...
1) We need a couple more people to be able to enter 2 full teams in the Canberra Teams Championship this Saturday 13th from 0830 to around 1700 (BBQ dinner at 1830) if you want to compete let me know ASAP. Entry is free as the club will cover it.
2) This Sunday at 1pm there will be a free BBQ at the clubhouse. This is during the beginners courses but all are welcome. This is a good chance to meet the new club members to organise people to sail with.
3) Reminder about the AGM coming up NEXT week. Get those nominations for committee positions in.
4) Because people have been asking about event dates and details below they are nicely organised into categories such as Social Events, Racing etc.
Social Events
Weekend to Tuross Head 27th/28 March
Sailing/Kayaking/Beach Weekend To Tuross Head 27th - 28th
The plan is to drive down to Tuross Heads on the south coast (2.5hr drive) on Friday night and car camp at a caravan park which is just metres from a surf beach and 10 minutes walk to the shops. With a surf beach and sheltered lakes it is an ideal location for sailing, kayaking, surfing or just relaxing on the beach. On the Saturday night there will be the traditional BBQ and beach party.
This trip is ideal for those who want to get to know other members of the club in a relaxed setting. There will be plenty of water activities (sailing, kayaking, windsurfing) to keep you amused although we we usually find that most people are happy just to hang out at the beach.
Camp fees: Approx $10 per person per night.
Petrol: Approx $20
Sailing Course BBQ
Sunday 14th March at 1pm. Come down to meet people from the club and get a free meal!
After Sailing Drinks
After the weekday sailing course sessions at around 2000 there will be after sailing drinks at the Canberra Yacht Club. This is an excellent opportunity for YOU to meet the clubs new members. This will provide the opportunity for you to get to know other members of the club so that you can organise to sail together or even line up crews for regattas.
Turn up to the clubhouse before 2000 or meet us at the CYC.
If you have any questions ring Todd 0401 016 243 or Garrick 0404 292 691.

Annual General Meeting Wednesday 17th March
The ANU Sailing Club 2004 AGM will be held at 1930 Wednesday 17th March. >From 5pm the clubhouse will be open from 1700 giving you the opportunity to go for a sail in a supervised environment. This will be followed by a free BBQ and the AGM.
The major task for the AGM is the election of the 2004 committee. With older committee members graduating and moving on the club really needs new blood on the committee.
If you are interested in nominating for a committee position contact me (Garrick Larkin Club Secretary on u3299815 at anu.edu.au , 0404 292 691).
Racing
Beginners Learn to Race (all standards of sailor welcome to compete).
This is a beginners series and is designed for those who have just completed a beginners course and want to learn how to race. As opposed to normal racing, coaching powerboats will be on hand to give advice and assist you. This is an excellent opportunity to learn to race however there is no compulsion to race and you could just go sailing with the added safety of rescue boats. There is no cost since it is paid by the ANUSC.
Tuesday night racing starts at 1800 so get down around 1715 or 1730 to rig. Racing finishes at approx 1930 so you will be derigged by around 2000.
Racing continues until the end of March so start turning up.
ACT Team Racing Championships (13-14 March 2004)
Sailed in teams this event should only take 1 day on Saturday however it may extend into Sunday if the series is not completed. There will be option for beginners to sail as crews for experienced sailors and for intermediates to skipper thereby increasing their sailing skills.
Batemans Bay Regatta (ANZAC Long Weekend 25 April)
This is the traditional end of session regatta for sailors from the Canberra region. It involves a couple of days of racing and a huge beach party. More details TBA.
How to get involved in the ANUSC
Six Simple Steps to getting actively involved in the ANUSC (and meet a lot of people and have a lot of fun)!
1) Turn up to social events (eg Coast Trip to Tuross 27-28th March) or after course drinks. Trips like this are an excellent way to meet other club members. You can swap details to organise to sail together or turn up to future events.
2) Turn up to training courses to help out or just meet lots of people. Even if you aren't an experienced sailor you can still help out and you will meet a lot of people.
3) Turn up to regattas. In sailing the most important requirement for a crew is weight so even if you have never been on a boat before there are opportunities to get involved with racing.
4) Organise your own events. Organise your own events by inviting friends and other club members to go sailing with you.
5) Organise club events. If you want to organise anything from twilight sailing, attending an interstate regatta or social Go Karting the committee will support you. You decide what the club needs and help make it happen.
6) Join the committee. Committee members are in the loop with what is coming up, get a clubhouse key and priority for racing boats.
