Hi sailors,
As you know the beginner courses will start from this Sunday and I'm
wondering if someone can give me a hand to check up our fleet and do a
few maintenance jobs (for I think I'll be to busy during the courses to do
something except general use boats maintenance). There is a couple of
fiberglassing and gelcoating jobs (sharpies) so I can do some short teaching
session for those who keen to learn how to do it (Mel, you're welcome to
come if you're available this Saturday).
What I'd like to do:
1. Check general use boats. Prepare a couple of radial sails and masts for
beginners. Sort out boat sails and sail numbers.
For the information of those who keen on racing. There is not enough sails
to make all 6 general boats suitable for an official race (not enough sails
with unique numbers). I'm proposing to find out how many sails with
different numbers we have and then decide to what boats we want to dedicate
them. We can then publish the boat names and corresponding sail numbers (and
ban to switch them between boats) such that people know what boat to take
for races and eliminate confuses with duplicated sail numbers.
2. Assemble cats. It might be nice to take them out on the open day.
Brett, could you come and give me an advice how much to cut the steering
system tubes to solve the problem you've found out.
3. Try to do some work on a racing taser and laser II. Since all general
boats will be in use twice a week, a couple of up and running racing vessels
could be useful. In addition there are two regattas coming.
4. Do some gelcoating and fiberglassing on the sharpies. There will be a
sharpie promo day on the next weekend so we want to have both sharpies up
and running for this event.
5. Finish with the tri-tier coupler and padding. There are a few trips
ahead of us.
TIMING. The shed will be open from 12.30 as advertised by Adam. If the
conditions are suitable for races I'd prefer to do the maintenance after the
race (4pm-6pm with BBQ for the bees). If the weather is as it's forecast
(wind 45 km/h) I won't advice people to take out boats - let them last
longer. In this case I'll get to the club whenever the first rain break is
after noon and I'll be there till 6 pm so anyone is welcome to join me for a
couple of hours of a fruitful job.
