Hi Tim

I would would be grateful if you could post this on the AQUA list:

Dear AQUA Colleagues

The 12th September deadline is fast approaching for the abstract submission (and early bird registration) the 2010 meeting of the Geoscience Society of NZ to be held in Auckland, November 21 to 24. If you undertake palaeoclimate research in the Southern Hemisphere (or elsewhere) this could be a good opportunity to showcase your research and/or enjoy an Auckland stop-over enroute to the Fall AGU meeting. There is at least one symposium relevant to AQUA members:

Session 10. Southern Hemisphere climate change and biotic responses: deep time to Recent
Convenors: Paul Augustinus p.augustinus at auckland.ac.nz<mailto:p.augustinus at auckland.ac.nz> & James Crampton j.crampton at gns.cri.nz<mailto:j.crampton at gns.cri.nz>

Earth scientists are well placed to contribute significantly to understanding the nature and drivers of climate change events, as well as biological responses to them. These contributions have global significance because of New Zealand's position in the southwest Pacific mid-latitudes within the westerly wind belt, astride major oceanic boundaries, and given the acknowledged role of the Southern Ocean and Antarctica in driving global climate. Important paleoclimate information is being derived from a range of marine and terrestrial archives, and production of these records involves the application and integration of a wide range of geological, biological, geochemical and physical proxies. This session will present results from studies of terrestrial and marine paleoclimate, paleoenvironmental change, and paleobiological response to change, from the Quaternary into deep time.
