Session Title: Education and Archaeology

Abstract: Archaeology is a discipline which crosses the traditional
Humanities/Science divide and has a greater breadth and diversity than
many other professional disciplines. The archaeology employment sector
is also expanding rapidly as a response to the resources boom. All these
factors bring with them a particular set of challenges in preparing
graduates for the workforce, which have been increasingly the focus of
attempts to improve archaeology teaching and learning outcomes. In
addition, external issues such as the new government focus on developing
university discipline and degree standards and the national curriculum
in History are also providing new pressures on archaeology as a
discipline. In this session we invite papers from educators, students,
employers and others which focus on extending the archaeology teaching
and learning agenda in a proactive manner into the next decade.
